- Jangan percaya langsung jika pemilik berkata bahwa mobil ini tangan pertama. Dan hanya dipakai di jalan tol saja. Kemungkinannya adalah mobil tersebut adalah bekas dari perusahaan rental. Pastikan semua surat-surat dalam kondisi lengkap, dan sesuai dengan nomer rangka dan nomer mesin yang terdapat pada kendaraan. Hati-hati mesin starlet sangat mudah di-swap/diganti, jadi pastikan nomer mesin sesuai dengan yang ada di BPKB.
- Jangan membeli mobil tersebut jika Anda masih merasa bimbang. Mesin starlet termasuk mesin yang memiliki suara halus saat dihidupkan, pastikan tidak ada suara-suara mencurigakan saat mesin hidup. Lihat apakah ada kebocoran oli di mesin, kemudian periksa kebelakang apabila bau gas pembuangan membuat perih dimata ada hal yang kurang beres dengan mesinnya. Kalau menurut Anda mesinnya agak berisik, transmisinya kurang halus, agak berkarat, dan sebagainya. Lebih baik Anda mencari mobil bekas lainnya.
- Jangan beli mobil yang mana Anda harus melakukan “sedikit” perbaikan, karena kenyataannya Anda harus melakukan perbaikan sana-sini tanpa henti-hentinya.
- Jangan membeli mobil yang bekas terkena banjir. Air dapat menyebakan mobil tersebut berkarat, kerusakan perangkat elektronik, kerusakan pada transmisi, dan sebagainya. Cara termudah melihat mobil apakah pernah terkena banjir adalah dengan mecium aroma interior bila berbau apek tidak sedap semacam bau karpet basah dipastikan mobil bekas terkena banjir. Indikator lain juga bisa dilihat pada lampu2 apakah terdapat kotoran lumpur masih tersisa disana.
- Jangan terlalu skeptis dan kasar terhadap penjual mobil tersebut. Walaupun kita kurang percaya kepada penjual mobil, namun banyak juga penjual mobil yang benar-benar jujur.
- Tetaplah berpendirian, namun jangan kasar, bersikaplah baik kepada mereka dan mereka pasti siap membantu Anda.
