Executive Vice President PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM), Dyonisius Beti mengatakan bahwa desain Soul GT ini memang pertama. Desainnya dikembangkan oleh tim lokal yang tentunya bekerja sama dengan tim RnD dari Yamaha Jepang seperti yang dikutip pada motorplus-online.com sabtu (14/4/2012).
Matik baru Yamaha ini memiliki desain yang terinspirasi muscle car, menebarkan kesan berotot dengan garis-garis desain tajam menggambarkan DNA sport khas Yamaha. Identitas paling menonjol bisa dilihat dari bentuk lampu depan yang terinspirasi dari grill depan mobil modern Amerika. Lampu senja Soul GT yang berbentuk angel eye juga menjadi ciri lainnya yang memperkuat kesan sporty dan macho. Lampu angel eye itu terinspirasi dari lampu sedan mewah Eropa.
Dyonisius Beti juga mnyatakan bahwa project coordinator untuk desain Soul GT ini adalah orang yang sama yang mendesain Yamaha Majesty. Sebagai tambahan informasi, matik yang dijual dengan harga Rp Rp 13,9 juta on the road Jakarta ini memiliki spesifikasi mesin serupa dengan Mio J. Mesinnya 4-langkah, 2 valve, SOHC, berpendingin kipas dan berkapasitas 113 cc.
Makin istimewa, sistem injeksi bahan bakarnya sudah mengusung teknologi Yamaha Mixture JET-Fuel Injection (YMJET-FI). Dilengkapi juga dengan forged piston dan diasil cylinder untuk meningkatkan performa dan durabilitas mesin.
