Selangkah Lagi Gerry Salim Juara Nasional Supersport 600cc. Pebalap Astra Honda Racing Team (AHRT), Gerry Salim selangkah lagi meraih gelar juara nasional pada ajang Indospeed Racing Series 2016 kelas Supersports 600cc setelah kembali meraih podium 2 dan 3 pada seri ke 4 di Sentul International Circuit, Jawa Barat (8-9/10). Gerry Salim yang tidak pernah sekalipun absen naik podium dalam ajang IRS 2016 berhasil mencatatkan tambahan poin 36 dalam seri ke-4 tersebut. Kini Gerry Salim sudah mengoleksi 181 poin dan semakin jauh meninggalkan pesaing terdekatnya dengan jarak 46 poin. Dengan demikian, Gerry Salim hanya butuh 5 poin untuk keluar sebagai penguasa klasemen akhir di satu seri terakhir nanti.
Gerry Salim dan Irfan Ardiansyah kembali berlaga di ajang balap meski baru melewati hari yang berat dan melelahkan di ajang Internasional Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) 2016, India pekan lalu (1-2/10). Pada seri kelima ARRC 2016 tersebut, Gerry Salim mengalami patah jari tangan. Kedua pebalap tersebut juga ditemani pebalap muda AHRT, Reza Dhanica Ahrens pada IRS 2016.
Belum pulihnya cidera patah jari tangan membuat jalannya IRS 2016 putaran keempat berjalan sulit bagi Gerry Salim. Para mekanik AHRT pun berusaha melakukan beberapa penyesuaian terhadap motor tunggangannya untuk memberikan kenyamanan saat balap. Latihan dan kualifikasi pun berhasil dilewati Gerry Salim dengan baik. Gerry mampu start pada posisi ke-3. Kondisi sebaliknya justru dialami oleh Irfan. Irfan terjatuh saat latihan akibat kehilangan grip ban depan yang membuatnya tidak dapat mengikuti sesi kualifikasi. Beruntung pebalap muda tersebut tidak mengalami cidera serius.
Pada balap pertama, sambil menahan sakit Gerry Salim berusaha untuk terus tenang dan konsisten mempertahankan raihan waktunya. Memaksimalkan strategi tersebut, di 2 lap menjelang finish Gerry Salim mulai tampil menekan dan berusaha memacu motornya lebih kencang. Meskipun belum berhasil menyusul pebalap terdepan, namun Gerry Salim mampu bertarung dan berhasil merebut posisi kedua pada akhir balap 16 lap tersebut dengan catatan waktu 24:57.286. Sementara itu, Irfan yang tidak ikut pada sesi kualifikasi mampu finish di posisi keempat dan Reza di posisi kelima.
Jalannya balap kedua pun tidak lebih mudah bagi Gerry Salim. Pebalap muda ini terus berusaha menjaga ritme balapnya sepanjang balapan. Pada lap ke-7 Gerry mengalami high-side, meskipun tidak sampai terjatuh namun Gerry Salim harus rela dilewati pebalap lain dan turun sampai ke posisi terakhir. Mencoba terus bertahan sambil menahan rasa sakit, pada 3 lap terakhir Gerry pun berhasil mencuri posisi ketiga dari rekan setimnya Reza. Gerry pun berhasil menyelesaikan balap di posisi ketiga dan Reza keempat, sedangkan Irfan tidak dapat menyelesaikan lomba akibat terjatuh pada tikungan terakhir di awal lap.
“Saya bersyukur atas hasil balap pekan ini. Meskipun cidera tangan saya belum pulih, namun saya berusaha kuat untuk memberikan yang terbaik. Pada balap kedua, saya sempat high-side dan tangan semakin sakit karena harus menahan motor, namun saya bersyukur tidak sampai jatuh serta bertahan sampai finish di posisi ketiga. Saya juga berterima kasih untuk mekanik yang telah bekerja keras atas hasil ini. Poin hari ini mampu melebarkan jarak saya dengan pebalap posisi kedua di klasemen sementara. Saya yakin di seri pamungkas dapat meraih juara dan menjadi Champion,” Ujar Gerry Salim.
Raihan seri ini juga menempatkan irfan di posisi ke 3 dan Rheza di posisi ke 6 klasemen sementara. Irfan pun masih berpeluang untuk melengkapi raihan seniornya Gerry Salim untuk mengisi posisi kedua klasmen akhir IRS 2016. Laga pamungkas IRS 2016 akan diadakan pada 12-13 November di sirkuit Sentul International Circuit.
