Teknologi Mobil Listrik Toyota Habiskan Rp 466 Miliar
Toyota Motor menggelontorkan uang sebesar US$ 35 juta atau setara Rp 466 miliar untuk menggelar riset soal baterai dan katalis fuel-cell. Keduanya akan sangat berguna bagi kendaraan nol-emisi di masa depan.
Dana tersebut dialokasikan untuk Toyota Research Institute, yang berbasis di Silicon Valley, Amerika Serikat (AS). Mereka juga akan menjalin kerja sama dengan grup riset lain, serta universitas dan lintas perusahaan yang relevan.
Beberapa pihak yang akan diikutsertakan dalam riset ini adalah University of Michigan, Stanford University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, dan Ilika, perusahaan material science asal Inggris.
Dikutip dari Automotive News, proyek ini akan berlangsung selama empat tahun. Menariknya, riset ini juga akan dibantu dengan teknologi kecerdasan buatan (artificial intelligence/AI) yang telah mereka buat sejak 2015 lalu.
“Toyota mengakui bahwa AI adalah teknologi dasar vital yang dapat dimanfaatkan di berbagai industri,” ujar Institute Chief Science Officer, Eric Krotkov.
Menurut dia, AI akan berperan untuk mengidentifikasi material baru yang akan dipakai pada baterai. Material baru diharapkan dapat membuat baterai lebih tahan lama, sehingga mobil listrik bisa menempuh jarak lebih jauh.
Mempercepat penemuan material baru, ujar mereka, akan mendukung visi Toyota dalam mengurangi emisi karbon dioksida pada kendaraan baru hingga 90 persen.
